TRANSIENCE showcased at the RedMENTES Energy Modelling Network session

On 27 May 2026, our colleague Diego García Gusano from TECNALIA led a session of the RedMENTES Network—a Spanish national alliance of research groups and institutions dedicated to energy modelling for the sustainable energy transition—hosted in hybrid format by the Universidad Pública de Navarra. The session provided a valuable opportunity to align ongoing work, exchange insights, and discuss emerging challenges in an increasingly complex context shaped by growing geopolitical uncertainty.

Diego’s presentation, titled “Industry Modelling in an Era of Disruption” introduced the TRANSIENCE project and highlighted ongoing developments towards the finalisation of the Model for European Industry Circularity and Climate Change Mitigation (MIC3)—a fully open-source modelling framework designed to assess industrial circularity, decarbonisation, and sustainability. Diego emphasised the importance of moving towards integrated modelling approaches capable of addressing interconnected challenges, such as decarbonisation and circularity, in a consistent and systemic manner. He also stressed the importance of actively involving key industrial stakeholders to validate modelling assumptions and ensure the relevance and robustness of results in real-world applications.
